Social Networking Overload???

Between MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, Linkedin, Reddit, Tagged, del.icio.us, Technorati.com, Digg, Flixter, Pandora, 12seconds, StumbleUpon, Blogger, LiveJournal and Jaiku (to name only a few) I often don't know if I'm coming or going... but apparently if I post my status in all the right places my "friends" will. ;)

Above are just a few popular sites. Are you starting to experience overload and burnout, too? Or do you thrive on all of this? What sites besides Blogger do you use and/or recommend? Okay, I'm climbing back under my rock. Oops, almost forgot to update my status on all of those sites: "Michael is now under his rock."

  2. Yes, there are too many to keep up with. BUT- I think too many people use that as an excuse to stop getting to know any! Some of these sites have real benefits, and ignoring them doesn't make a statement about technology! It just makes you lose out on technologies that could enhance your own life- should you take the time to weed out the irrelevant ones! Just my two cents. Stop learning- stop growing people:)

  3. Thanks for your comment, Shannon. Yes, there are many good tools to be found, but it does sometimes feel overwhelming. I know a lot of friends jumping from MySpace to Facebook right now, in part because they were on BOTH and it was too much to keep up with.

And I have to chuckle every time I hear someone on the news or NPR's Diane Rehm use expressions like "tweet". When I first heard it I was pretty sure they had no idea what they were really talking about. Now, some might. I'm not selling the impact of Twitter short, just look at what happened - is still happening - in Iran.

But it was twitter that killed Jeff Goldblum last week, too. What started out as a prank soon took on a life of its own. Twitter users retweeted the item, and the community became an echo chamber. Facebook members chimed in. And pretty soon the news rather prematurely announced his death. None of it true of course.
